Faecal Incontinence or Constipation
WHAT IS IT?
Faecal incontinence is the inability to control your bowel movement causing either a partial or full loss of bowel control.
Constipation is a reduction in stool frequency or the inability to empty your bowel caused by slow transit, loss of awareness of a full rectum or nerve damage.

WHAT are the symptoms?
Loss in bowel control can occur out of the blue or it can be as a result of childbirth or a pelvic/ lower back trauma. It is a very isolating condition but please know that there are lots of things women's health physio can do to help you. The sooner you seek treatment either through your GP ( who will refer you to the continence team - currently a 2-3 month wait) or privately, the sooner you can start your treatment.
Constipation can be caused due to a reduction in rectal awareness, poor diet, inefficient toiletting techniques or poor diet/ fluid intake.

WHICH APPOINTMENT SHOULD I BOOK?
A Women's Health Physiotherapy appointment is 1hr in length and costs £80.
Prior to your appointment you will be sent a new patient questionnaire to give me some detailed information in advance. This makes sure we can make the most of the appointment time.
I will then conduct a thorough functional assessment to see how you move and if you consent we will conduct an internal examination to assess the pelvic floor. Once the assessment is completed, time allowing we will start treatment and make a treatment plan.
