PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE
WHAT IS IT?
A pelvic organ prolapse occurs when 1 or more of the organs within the pelvis, descend. This can occur as a result of multiple factors; poor posture and biomechanics, a weak pelvic floor or tension within the pelvic floor.
WHAT are the symptoms?
You may experience heaviness and dragging in your groin with exertion, worsening through the day. You may also feel bulging externally.
WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?
Pelvic organ prolapse can occur for many different reasons and at any point. As a consequence of childbirth and trauma which may have occurred during the labouring process, or as a consequence of menopause. As the oestrogen levels reduce in menopausal women or breastfeeding mothers, it can have an effect on the tissues in the pelvis.
WHat can be done?
There are many things that Women's Health Physiotherapy can offer for the treatment and management of pelvic organ prolapse. If you would like more information about what we can do to help you, please contact me for an appointment at harriet.hhphysio@gmail.com
WHICH APPOINTMENT SHOULD I BOOK?
A Women's Health Physiotherapy appointment is 1hr in length and costs £80.
Prior to your appointment you will be sent a new patient questionnaire to give me some detailed information in advance. This makes sure we can make the most of the appointment time.
I will then conduct a thorough functional assessment to see how you move and if you consent we will conduct an internal examination to assess the pelvic floor. Once the assessment is completed, time allowing we will start treatment and make a treatment plan.

How will you feel after your appointment?
After your appointment you will have a better understanding of your body, where your pelvic floor is and how to contract it, what your posture is like and how it will impact your symptoms and what you can do to manage and treatment your symptoms. I am here to support you through your recovery and I am happy to answer any question you may have.
