What to Expect During a women's health appointment
At the beginning of each Initial assessment whether it is in clinic or at your home, I will begin by taking a thorough history. The more information you tell me the better. No detail is too much. This can take between 25 mins and 35 mins on average.
After the Subjective we move onto the part of the assessment where I need to see you move. It helps me a lot if you are wearing shorts or leggings for this part so I can see your movement patterns properly.
I will look at your posture, how you load, balance and conduct some dynamic movements and muscle length tests. I will also be looking at your strength.
If in clinic this will be done in front of a mirror and on the plinth, if it is an at home assessment, a mirror is helpful, otherwise it will be on the floor. A free area of space is necessary for this. It can be in your lounge or in a bedroom.
If you are happy to I will then conduct an internal assessment. This will include an assessment of your pelvic floor structure, it's tone, position of your pelvic organs and then a pelvic floor strength test. I will test both quick and slow contractions, testing both sets of fibres.
After the assessment I will give you some feedback and then outline what I have identified as areas that need improving.
I will then give you some exercises and advice relevant to what I have found.
